Earlier this week my best friend Jonas invited me over to P7, a Danish radio channel. He does an awesome show called “Songwriter”. It’s a new program, which Jonas actually came up with the idea for on his own – it mixes the two worlds of radio and song writing together in one show. Each time a new guest joins Jonas, and together they have to write a song in no more than 2 hours, inspired by a story from a listener. While writing the song, regular music is playing throughout the show, and then every 3-4 minutes we/they go live again and are on the radio talking, whilst still writing the song. It’s a bit stressful, but also challenging in a good way.
Jonas and I go way back – all the way back to when he was a TV host for PULS on TV2 and I was a pop star, travelling the world and singing “This Is How We Party”… I met Jonas for the first time when I was 14, and we’ve done a great deal of things together ever since, - travelled to Venezuela, Thailand and the US (just to name a few), and created music as well.
We’ve got 20 years of friendship and work in the bag – we actually wrote my solo album a few years back… However, it never really broke through because I ended up choosing to put it aside only a few weeks after its release, because of my brother’s sudden death, around the same time.
Suddenly I felt very mixed feelings about it all, and I definitely didn’t feel like standing on a stage and pretending to be happy, after such a tragic loss.
The only person I’ve written and done music with since has been Jonas – and only because he knows me so well. Because of this, it was also an obvious “yes!” when Jonas asked me to join his show and write with him, - I feel comfortable and secure with him.
After only a few hours with Jonas I totally feel like going back to the studio and creating music again J
The show airs today at 12 PM on P7 right here if you want to listen in and here the song we wrote for a listener and her mother. It was fun but also challenging (totally out of my comfort zone) to do this show, but I’m excited to hear how it all turned out.
On the site there are links to the previous shows if you wanna give them a listen … He has written with Tue West, L.I.G.A, Oh Land, Szhirley, Aura Dione and many more …
